Clydach is about 6 miles north east of Swansea City centre and is a thriving community within the catchment area of a number of superb schools. St Johns House is within easy walking
distance for Clydach
Infants School and also Clydach
Junior School. Due to its excellent motorway links Clydach is also within commutable distance of Bridgend and Cardiff to the East and Carmarthen and Llanelli to the West. Ammanford is also commutable via Craig Cefn Parc. It is near Morriston Hospital, the DVLC and the Swansea Enterprise Park. Leisure activities The River Tawe, is home to breeding salmon and trout so it is popular for fishing. There are some lovely places very nearby to walk and take in the wonders of nature such as the Clydach Canal walk which can be picked up at Coed Gwilym Park and which extends all the way to Pontardawe. Another is the Cwm Clydach RSPB nature reserve which is on the road from Clydach to Craig Cefn Parc and is a tranquil, beautiful place to walk and bird watch. Coed Gwilym Park is a beautiful space for leisure activities where you can play tennis, football and rugby. There is also a bowling green in Clydach. Route 43 is a cycle path, which follows the River Tawe and can be used from Clydach all the way to Swansea. Clydach also has an 18 hole golf course. In 2006 the new Forge Fach community
complex was opened which
provides a range of facilities including IT centre, Training, Crèche,
Healthy Living areas, Community Café with an external Multi Use
Games area including basket ball courts. It also acts
as an educational venue for the local St. John Ambulance Division, where
members of the community can increase their skills in First Aid. In 2006 the old public hall was converted into an indoor climbing centre and renamed Dynamic Rock. The centre provides an unique atmosphere with spectacular 12m high walls featuring overhangs, slabs, pillars, arêtes and arches, and dedicated bouldering walls with quality matting, regularly re-set routes and interesting features and a balcony café, from where you can sit and enjoy a mug of tea whilst overlooking the rock climbing walls.
General Amenities. Clydach provides the wide-open spaces one would expect from a rural setting and yet it is well provided for with modern requirements also. The village has amongst its retail outlets two butchers, two pharmacies, a general post office, two high street banks, a public lending library, supermarket, formal dress hirers, jewellers, an assortment of good quality takeaways and pubs and pub restaurants where an evening meal can be enjoyed.
